Emigrating to Cyprus
How to Emigrate
The first step is to establish a permanent residence in Cyprus. Since there is no central registration system, a utility bill (such as electricity or water) transferred to your own name serves as official proof of address. This utility bill can be organized by signing a rental agreement for at least twelve months or purchasing property. Afterward, you can submit the MEU1 form to the Aliens Immigration Unit to obtain the permanent residence permit (Yellow Slip) with an ARC number. After receiving the Yellow Slip, all formalities – from registering with the health system to establishing a company – can be tackled.
What to Consider before and after Emigration
Before departure, check the validity of your passport or ID card (at least six months remaining validity). If taking pets, you need an EU pet passport, rabies vaccination, and microchip. In Germany, you should deregister your residence and, if applicable, register a new company in the transparency register in time. After arrival, the first steps are to transfer utility services to your own name, apply for the ARC number, a Cypriot tax number, a VAT ID if necessary, and register for social security.
Requirements for Emigrating to Cyprus
To move as an EU citizen without a visa, you need a valid passport or ID card. Proof of residence – a rental agreement for at least twelve months or property purchase – and a utility bill transferred to this name are mandatory. Employees provide work or salary certificates; self-employed individuals must show their business registration and an advance payment of social contributions. Additionally, health insurance is required, either through the public system GESY or a private policy.
