How we rank listings.

Without a search term, we shuffle the matching listings anew every day. With a search term, the listings whose name, category, services, description and location best match your search come first. Matches in your language count slightly more than matches in the other language. If the search finds very little, we also show listings with a similarly spelled name. Your filters decide which listings appear. Packages, badges, reviews and whether a business belongs to the operators do not change this order. You can also sort the list alphabetically or by the date a listing was added.

• District: If you pick a district, we show listings based there with their own premises, listings that come to you in that district or anywhere in Cyprus, and providers who work online. If you only want providers with premises, also pick “With premises”.
• Shuffled daily: Without a search term we put the matching listings in a new, random order every day. Within one day the order stays the same, so you miss nothing while paging.
• Best match: With a search term, the listings that fit your search best come first. If several fit equally well, the daily shuffle decides.
• Name: Searching looks at the name of a listing. If you sort by “A to Z”, we order the listings alphabetically by their name.
• Newest first: The listings added to the directory most recently come first.
• Completeness: How fully a listing is filled in does not change the order.
• Up to date: When a provider last confirmed their details does not change the order.
• Views and clicks: How often a listing is viewed or a contact option is clicked does not change the order.
• Package: Every listing has the same package at the same price. It does not change the order.
• Term: Whether the term of a listing is paid or granted does not change the order.
• Founding member: Being among the first listings does not move a listing up.
• Operators: Whether a business belongs to the operators of cyprus-expats.com does not change the order.
• Checks: A professional licence we matched against the register, and other information on the page of a listing, do not change the order.
• Reviews: Reviews only change the order if you choose “Highest rated”.
• Category: Searching looks at the names of the main service and the further service areas.
• Other words: You can also find a category through common other words, for example “electrics” for electricians.
• Services: Searching looks at the titles of the services of a listing.
• Short description: Searching looks at the short description.
• Description: Searching looks at the full description.
• Place: Searching looks at the place of a listing.
• Language: Matches in your language count slightly more. We weight matches in the other language with the factor 0.8.
• Similar names: If the search finds fewer than 3 results, we also show listings with a similarly spelled name.
